A particular act of recall or recollection

How was 2018 for everyone?

The worst year? Best year? Indifferent? haha

I definitely had some ups and downs this past year, but I wanted to look back on some of my favorite/ best moments and memories 2018 gave to me. I enjoy looking back on my memories (I’m a very nostalgic person haha), so I hope you enjoy reading about them 😊

Let’s get started!

(Sidenote: These are not in any order or ranking!)

NAACP Image Awards

In January, my brother and I were seat fillers for the NAACP Image Awards! This was an amazing experience for me because I enjoy watching award shows and I’m really into media and production, so I was completely shocked when I was given a chance to be apart of this show. It was also an award show honoring black excellence in the entertainment industry on Martin Luther King Day, which made it even more special. We were able to be in the presence of some of the greatest entertainers of our time and mingle with people who were in the industry. Sneaking into the after party was the icing on the cake to an amazing night haha.

If you haven’t read my post about my experience, check it out here: A person who fills in an empty seat during an event

Boston Trip

Earlier this year, I took a trip back home to Connecticut to celebrate a few of my friend’s birthdays! One of my friends decided to rent out a penthouse in Boston so we could celebrate in the city. Whenever my OG friends get together, we already know it’s gonna be an eventful time 😂.

So the plan was to have everyone go to the penthouse to pregame then go out to the club from there. Not gonna lie, there was a good amount of us at the penthouse but we were all just chilling. We weren’t being loud or blasting music but the neighbors

thought we were about to have this huge party. So the owners of the penthouse kept calling my friend and asking us to leave the property. She kept telling them that we weren’t going to have a party but they didn’t believe her.

We ended ignoring the phones calls/texts and went out to the club lol. It was literally snowing outside and we were all trying to turn up 😂. When we got in the club we were all having a good time but then we realized there was a chance the owners could lock us out before we got back. So we were looking for hotels while we were in the club.

(Alexa play Crying in the Club by Camila Cabello 😂)

The good times then turned into drama. The birthday girl got too drunk so we all left the club and we ended up not getting locked out of the penthouse but the drama followed us back. I can’t spill all the (Boston) tea on this PARTY (forgive me for my corniness 😂) but let’s just say the night was very eventful and a time we’ll all remember haha.

This year, I experienced Coachella for the first time with one of my best friends and sister! None of us knew what to expect but we were all excited. Especially since we were seeing the Queen B herself!! 🐝

Seeing Beyoncé perform live is an experience that everyone needs to witness. The Destiny’s Child reunion, marching band, choreography, literally everything was just AMAZING 🙌🏽. It’s still crazy to me that I got to see such an iconic performance in person.

But besides Beyoncé, the rest of Coachella weekend was amazing! Day 1 we got to see Daniel Caesar, SZA, Khalid, The Weeknd, Kygo, and even a surprise performance from Ariana Grande. The next day we barely saw any of the other acts because we were too excited for Beyonce lol so we only saw Alina Baraz, HAIM (because they went on before Beyonce haha) and Tyler the Creator. On the final day we saw Cardi B, Miguel, Migos, 6lack, and Eminem.

The art installations were incredible! And seeing the notorious Coachella ferris wheel was great, even though we didn’t get to ride it haha.

Overall the trip was really fun but also very exhausting haha. There was even one point where I just passed out on the ground during Tyler the Creator’s set because I was SO tired 😴😂.

If you’ve ever wanted to go to Coachella, you should definitely go! But just make sure you plan everything ahead of time, which is what I didn’t do lol.

New Job

A big event that happened to me this year was starting a new career! Ever since I began working, I’ve always had two jobs at the same time. Working two jobs while going to school at the same time and having to use public transportation for a period of time was rough.

For a while I felt stuck. I graduated from college, got my degree, was applying to multiple jobs each day, working hard at both my jobs, but nothing was happening. Not only did I feel pressure from myself, but from friends and family who would ask me when I was going to use my degree or find a new job.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed both of my jobs at the time. I had been at one for almost 5 years and the other for a little over 2 years. But juggling both jobs and my personal life was getting very exhausting and I was ready to start something new.

In August, that’s when I started my new job. I’m so grateful to finally have a job in the field I’ve been striving for. If you’ve ever felt stuck in your career path, just remember everything happens when it’s supposed to. I also landed the job around my birthday so I felt like it was an early birthday gift too haha.

Like I said before, whenever my OG friends get together, you know it’s going to be an eventful time 😅 haha.

For my 25th birthday, my friends and I all went to Mexico! We’re all already a mess in the states, so when you add a new country to the mix, you know something is about to happen lol.

We ended up being homeless for the first few hours we got there because none of us had service (and neither did any of the restaurants we went to coincidentally 🤔), so we couldn’t contact the owner of the place we were staying at. We eventually were able to get in contact with him but we were freaking out those first few hours lol.

We went out the first night and ended up go to this outside club that had an open bar for a cheap cover so of course we were down. During one of the rounds of drinks at the bar, I noticed that there were black dots floating around in my cup. At first I thought they were just seeds because we had ordered a drink with watermelon flavoring in it. But I decided to make sure they were just seeds and sure enough they were not LOL. There were literally ants floating around in my drink and when I told everyone else they all realized they had ants in their drinks too. We told the bartender about it and she realized there were a bunch of ants in

one of her mixers. After that, I was done with the open bar lol. 🐜

As we were leaving Mexico, we thought we were free of anymore surprises. But boy were we wrong lol.

So Siri was giving us directions to go back home and we got stuck in traffic as we were trying to cross the border. Siri gave us a detour so we decided to take it. The directions were bringing us on a sketchy route and we were all so confused. Then we were lead to this rocky dirt hill that Siri was telling us to go up. We started to drive up and it became harder and harder to go up the hill. At this point, we’re like ok let’s just turn around and go back to the original path we were on.

THEN out of nowhere, this little boy comes riding up the hill on his bike. He starts to gesture for us to drive up the hill and some of us decide to get out of the car to see where he wants us to go (which I thought was crazy by the way lol). So they come back and they think it’s ok to go back up the hill. So we started driving and the car ended up going into a pothole and getting stuck.

We eventually got out, but it was just another thing to add to the list of “Things That Would Only Happen to Us”.

Even though there were a few bumps on the vacation, this was a trip I will always remember and a birthday I can look back on with so many memories haha.

Looking back on these moments from this past year, I’m so grateful to have experienced them and with people I love and are thankful to have in my life. I’m glad I was able to have these memories and moments in 2018 and I’m excited to see what 2019 has in store for me next!

See ya’ll next year 😊
